UNDERFOOT is a major new exhibition by Elizabeth Price, developed in collaboration with The Hunterian, Fiona Jardine (The Glasgow School of Art) and Dovecot Studios.

For the exhibition, Price has created two new commissions, a two-channel moving image work and a hand-tufted rug, both of which have been commissioned by The Hunterian for its permanent collection.

UNDERFOOT takes as its point of departure the archives of Glasgow-based carpet manufacturers, James Templeton and Company Ltd. and Stoddard International plc, now held in the University of Glasgow’s Archives and Special Collections.

New work connects Price's research into the archives to the carpets that furnish the Mitchell Library on Glasgow’s North Street, with an intention to draw a relationship between the architecture and civic agendas of the Mitchell and The Hunterian Art Gallery, investigating ideas of social space.
